Soft Solder

Soft solder is used in applications below 840 degrees Fahrenheit where the parent material is not affected as in welding and brazing. Soft solder is typically a mixture of tin and lead with a fluxing agent being used to clean the joint for a suitable seal. Pure lead is also used as a soft solder to join copper pieces in a the sheet metal and roofing industries. Soft solder is available is a solid form or as a flux cored wire. Typical fluxes are acid or rosin based depending on the joint type and cleaning action required.
